Winter is the season of giving, and you can donate many important items to make a difference in your local community. Whether you’re looking to declutter your home or simply spread some holiday cheer, there are plenty of options available to you. In this article, we’ll explore some of the most impactful items to donate during the winter season, and why they’re so crucial to children in need.

Warm Clothing and Blankets

One of the most critical items to donate during the winter season is warm clothing and blankets. With temperatures dropping, it’s essential to keep those in need warm and comfortable. You can donate gently used coats, hats, gloves, and scarves, as well as new or gently used blankets. These items can be especially important for families and individuals experiencing homelessness, as they provide not only warmth but also a sense of comfort and security.

Some of our donors enjoy making blankets, mittens, and scarves specifically for children. Here is a recent donation we received:

Non-Perishable Food Items

Another essential item to donate during the winter season is non-perishable food. Many food banks and pantries are in high demand during this time of year, and your donation can make a significant impact. You can donate canned goods, dried pasta, rice, and beans, as well as peanut butter and other non-perishable snacks. These items provide nourishment for those in need, helping to keep them healthy and warm during the cold winter months. At the Treehouse, we have a food bank Montgomery County community members can utilize as they need.

Toys and Gifts for Children

The winter season is a time of joy and celebration, and you can help spread the holiday spirit by donating toys and gifts for children. Many organizations host holiday toy drives, and your donation can bring a smile to a child’s face. Consider donating new, unwrapped toys such as dolls, action figures, board games, and art supplies. Your generosity will bring joy to children and families in need, and help make the holiday season a little brighter.

Not only is this important over the holidays, but specifically when working with children, having toys for them to play with and use helps with communication and helps give them a safe space to play.

Personal Care and Hygiene Products

In addition to food and warm clothing, personal care and hygiene products are also important items to donate during the winter season. These items can include shampoo, conditioner, toothpaste, soap, and other toiletries. These products help children maintain their personal hygiene, which is especially important during the cold winter months when illness can be more prevalent.

Monetary Donation

Consider a financial donation to our non-profit charity for children in Montgomery County, MD. Financial support is essential to supporting the services provided by The Tree House CAC, as well as to fund services provided to children and families impacted by abuse.
