Outpatient Therapist

Description: The Tree House Child Advocacy Center (CAC) of Montgomery County Maryland is pleased to announce an opening for a full-time licensed child trauma therapist.

We provide both forensic and clinical services to children and families who have experienced child abuse and/or neglect. Our staff includes a forensic interviewer, pediatrician with a child abuse specialty, community health nurse, family advocate, social workers and administrative staff. As part of the CAC model we work closely with our partner agencies that include Child Welfare Services, The Office of the State’s Attorney, The Office of the County Attorney and the Special Victims Unit of the Montgomery County Police.

The therapist will provide trauma therapy to children ages 2-18 and their parents/families. Therapy may include individual, parent training, sibling and family therapy. Additional tasks include performing risk assessments, screening calls, attend didactics, group supervision and weekly Multidisciplinary Team Meetings (MDT) with our partner agencies. The therapist may also attend Family Involvement Meetings (FIM) as needed.

The mental health department values evidence based treatments and offers a variety of different approaches, including Trauma Focused-Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT), and Child and Family Traumatic Stress Intervention (CFTSI). The therapist will be trained in TF-CBT, if not previously certified, and may have the opportunity, based on interest and experience, to learn or be exposed to some of our other approaches.

The Tree House offers competitive salaries and excellent benefits, including health insurance, a 401K plan, holidays, and paid leave. Therapists receive training in the implementation of evidence-based treatments and are supported through individual supervision, group supervision, and a vicarious trauma group. There are multiple leadership opportunities, including the potential to provide clinical supervision, lead didactic seminars, speak at professional conferences, contribute to program development, and conduct community outreach events.

  1. A minimum of a Master’s degree in social work (LMSW, LCPC, or LCSW-C) or Ph.D. or Psy.D. in psychology is required
  2. A current license within their field to perform therapy in the State of Maryland is required
