Transitional Trauma Therapist

Description: The Tree House Child Advocacy Center (CAC) of Montgomery County Maryland is pleased to announce an opening for a full-time licensed therapist to provide Transitional Trauma Therapy (T3) to children ages 0-18.

We provide both forensic and clinical services to children and families who have experienced child abuse and/or neglect. Our staff includes a forensic interviewer, pediatrician with a child abuse specialty, community health nurse, family advocate, social workers and administrative staff. As part of the CAC model, we work closely with our partner agencies that include Child Welfare Services, The Office of the State’s Attorney, The Office of the County Attorney and the Special Victims Investigation Division of the Montgomery County Police. The T3 therapist will provide short-term trauma therapy to children ages 0-18 who have been removed from their homes and primary caregivers and placed into foster care.

T3 therapy is provided in the foster home (or virtually as COVID protocols permit).

Responsibilities include:

  • Provide transitional trauma therapy (T3) services to clients of The Tree House. Please note, service provision will generally be in foster homes, however it may occasionally be virtual (e.g. during the COVID-19 pandemic) as approved by the Mental Health Director.
  • Participate in Multi-disciplinary case review (MDT) for clients for which the therapist has rendered T3 services.
  • Court appearances, as requested by The Tree House Director, related to clients for which the therapist has rendered T3 services.
  • Training participation per NCA standards.
  • Participate in weekly clinical supervision sessions.
  • Participate in weekly Tree House staff and provider meetings.
  • Be licensed in the state of Maryland (e.g. LMSW, LCSW-C, LGPC, LCPC) and in good standing.
  • Coordinate with CWS social workers to determine placement information for all petitions received.
  • Participate in weekly T3 meeting for case discussion, case assignment, and group supervision.
  • Present education on T3 program to CWS, foster parent trainings, and the community, as scheduled.

Requirements:

  1. A minimum of a Master’s degree (LMSW, LCPC, or LCSW-C) or Ph.D. or Psy.D. in psychology is required
  2. A current license within their field to perform therapy in the State of Maryland is required
  3. Fluency in Spanish is preferred
  4. Experience working with children is preferred

Child Trauma Therapist

Description: The Tree House Child Advocacy Center (CAC) of Montgomery County Maryland is pleased to announce an opening for a full-time licensed child trauma therapist.

We provide both forensic and clinical services to children and families who have experienced child abuse and/or neglect. Our staff includes a forensic interviewer, pediatrician with a child abuse specialty, community health nurse, family advocate, social workers and administrative staff. As part of the CAC model, we work closely with our partner agencies that include Child Welfare Services, The Office of the State’s Attorney, The Office of the County Attorney and the Special Victims Investigation Division of the Montgomery County Police.

 The therapist will provide trauma therapy to children ages 2-18 and their parents/families. Therapy may include individual, parent training, sibling and family therapy. Additional tasks include performing risk assessments, screening calls, attend didactics, group supervision and weekly Multidisciplinary Team Meetings (MDT) with our partner agencies. The therapist may also attend Family Involvement Meetings (FIM) as needed.

The mental health department values evidence-based treatments and offers a variety of different approaches, including Trauma Focused-Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT), and Child and Family Traumatic Stress Intervention (CFTSI). The therapist will be trained in TF-CBT, if not previously certified, and may have the opportunity, based on interest and experience, to learn or be exposed to some of our other approaches.

Therapists receive training in the implementation of evidencebased treatments and are supported through individual supervision, group supervision, and a vicarious trauma group. There are multiple leadership opportunities, including the potential to provide clinical supervision, lead didactic seminars, speak at professional conferences, contribute to program development, and conduct community outreach events.
